(get your) Ducks in a Row! (Sold)
I started this piece knowing I wanted a gathering—ducks, geese, something with glow and contrast and a little chaos, and ended up being one of my happiest pieces. It took years. I kept adding details, then pulling them back, chasing a feeling I couldn’t quite name. Eventually, it clicked: the lineup felt alive, like they were posing for a group photo they didn’t agree to. Each one got its own little splash of personality: a twist of the neck, a tilt of the beak, a dab of pink or yellow where it didn’t strictly need to be. Two ducks snuck in with accessories—one in a crown, one in a hat that’s either Irish or a Korean gat depending on how you squint. I wanted the whole thing to feel like motion and mischief, like they’re marching straight out of the canvas with something important to say (probably “quack”). I leaned into the glow, exaggerated the contrast, and let the brushstrokes stay loose and loud. I painted it because it made me smile, and I hope it does the same for you.
